The Acessa Procedure is Revolutionary for Women

The Acessa Procedure is revolutionary for women. Acessa is an option that is now available, possibly allowing a woman to avoid a hysterectomy. I had the Acessa procedure 10 days ago with Dr. Bruce Lee. I am feeling amazing! Right after the laparoscopic surgery, I immediately noticed a change in urinary issues I had been experiencing. I am hopeful that my frequent urinary track infections will be resolved. I also noticed that a continuous pressure, tightness and fullness above my pelvic bone was gone. I felt unexpected relief with a certain type of lower back pain I have had for

Wholeheartedly Recommend Dr. Lee and the Acessa procedure

I am beyond grateful to have found such an amazing doctor and procedure for the treatment of my uterine fibroids. The experience has been a great and truly liberating one for me. Initially, not knowing anything about the Acessa procedure I had many questions and concerns, which were quickly remedied after meeting Dr. Lee. He is an incredibly dedicated, knowledgeable and through doctor, with a warm and comforting bedside manner (truly a wonderful man). Any initial hesitations subsided and paled in comparison to my concerns about having a hysterectomy; as this was the recommended treatment option offered by my initial

Pandemic of Zika Virus Causes Major Birth Defect

An outbreak of a little known virus called the Zika virus has caused women infected during pregnancy to give birth to infants with microcephaly, a condition marked by an abnormally small head, mental retardation, and growth and developmental abnormalities. The outbreak is predominantly occurring in Brazil, where the Brazilian Health Ministry recently reported 3,530 cases of microcephaly and 46 infant deaths possibly linked to the virus. In 2015 at least 2,782 cases of microcephaly were reported compared to 147 in 2014. The number of cases is increasing daily, and the peak mosquito season is in April, bringing fears that the

Life Before Acessa

An Acessa Patient Shares Her Bold Journey to Discover a Better Treatment For Painful Fibroids My fibroids were detected at an annual gynecological check-up over 10 years ago. My OB/GYN noticed the fibroids manually. She sent me to get an ultrasound where they said there were a few fibroids, but not very large, so I didn’t do anything about them. For years, I noticed at every check-up my fibroids were getting larger. My sister was diagnosed with a large fibroid, the size of a grapefruit, when she was 50. She did a total hysterectomy, and I took care of her

Comparison of Acessa™ and Uterine Artery Embolization

Comparison of Radiofrequency Ablation of Fibroids (Acessa™  Procedure) and Uterine Artery Embolization (UAE) Uterine Artery Embolization Procedure The procedure is performed by an interventional radiologist. If complications occur, the patient is cared for by a gynecologist. Under sedation, an incision is made over the femoral artery and a catheter is inserted. Under fluoroscopy (real time, X ray imaging) the catheter is maneuvered into the left and then the right uterine artery. Permanent synthetic beads (usually made of poly vinyl alcohol PVA) are then injected which enter the uterus and block blood flow, causing ischemia or lack of oxygen throughout the

Acessa™ Procedure covered by Blue Cross/BlueShield In the Midwest

Today, Blue Cross/BlueShield of the Midwest (Texas, Illinois, Oklahoma, Montana, and New Mexico) issued a policy statement declaring coverage of the Acessa procedure. Logically, this indicates that the Blues in other regions will at some point follow suit, as will other major insurance carriers. This event is truly a landmark in the 15-year journey to bring this procedure to women in need. It is a huge step that will foster more steps. Of all the emotions and thoughts that I now experience, I feel, most of all, gratitude. I am grateful that this event makes the procedure available to millions
